Stolen Clear Creek shuttle bus involved in I-70 joyride crashes

Someone stole a Clear Creek County shuttle bus that was parked in Georgetown on Friday afternoon and took it on a joyride on Interstate 70, causing two crashes before abandoning the vehicle in Denver, sheriff’s officials said.

The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office reported a single-vehicle crash involving the stolen Roundabout shuttle bus at 12:40 p.m. on eastbound I-70 near mile 241, just outside of Idaho Springs.

After crashing the bus, the suspect hit a responding Idaho Springs police vehicle while fleeing the scene. Police found the bus abandoned in Denver as of 1:20 p.m.

The I-70 crashes caused a mile-long backup on eastbound I-70 before all lanes of the highway were cleared at 1:35 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators did not have any information about the suspect as of Friday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said.
