A severe storm system could move into the Chicago area over the weekend, the National Weather Service says.
Storms are likely Saturday morning and into the early afternoon, and the area is under a severe thunderstorm risk at a level two out of a possible five, the NWS said. Gusty winds are likely around sunrise Saturday, particularly to the west of the Chicago area.
Storms could roll through the area Sunday, too, but the likelihood of thunderstorms often depends on what weather in the area the day before looks like, so Saturday’s storms may affect the potential of storms Sunday.
After a quiet weather day today, periods of showers and storms are expected Saturday into at least early next week. Saturday’s severe storm risk will depend on the evolution of any thunderstorm complexes across IA and MN tonight. pic.twitter.com/0gDJPw6pkh

“On Sunday, the latest indications are that if we get these storms tomorrow, the threat for additional storms on Sunday may get pushed south of the city and into northwest Indiana,” said Lee Carlaw, an NWS meteorologist.
High temperatures are expected to reach 86 degrees Saturday and 77 degrees Sunday.
Storms could raise the risk of flooding across the area Saturday and Sunday.
By next week, heat and humidity is forecast to rise in the area. The high is expected to reach 91 on Tuesday and 93 Wednesday, the NWS said.
