Leave early, get outside and just enjoy the nearly 80-degree day that is in store for a limited time only, as temperatures cool into the 50s for the rest of the week, the National Weather Service says.
Monday will be the warmest day of the week by about 30 degrees. As of midday, it was 72 degrees at O’Hare Airport, and it may reach 80.
A cold front and some scattered storms Monday night were forecast to push out the warm air and bring back some chillier weather for the rest of the week. Rain and thunderstorms rolled through the area Monday evening.
“It’s pretty common in springs to have these large fluctuations,” National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro said. “Eat outside for lunch. Leave early, if you can. Get outside. Enjoy it.”
The low is forecast to be 48 degrees Monday night, with scattered showers throughout the night.
Some warmer weather in the 60s is expected to roll around just in time for Mother’s Day weekend.
