Suspect arrested at Manchester Airport after synagogue terror attack

A man who was arrested in the wake of the Manchester Synagogue terror attack has been held again at an airport.

Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, claimed alleigance to Islamic State after driving at worshippers in his car outside Heaton Park Hebrew Synagogue and stabbing Jewish people on Yom Kippur.

Another 30-year-old man was arrested on 2 October on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism after Al-Shamie was shot dead by police.

On Thursday, the suspect was re-arrested on suspicion of failing to disclose information that could have prevented the terror attack.

The man was detained at 12.34pm at Manchester Airport earlier today but has since been released on bail with conditions.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman added: ‘We do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public following the incident last week.

‘This remains a live investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing North West.’

Terrorist Al-Shamie is reported to have told a police operator: ‘I have killed two Jews in the name of the Islamic State’ as he embarked on his rampage.

He then attacked others with two knives and tried to storm the synagogue, wearing a fake suicide belt.

Father-of-three Melvin Cravitz, 66, was killed, along with Adrian Daulby, 53, believed to have been inadvertently shot by police as he ran to block the synagogue doors to stop Al-Shamie getting inside.

Three men remain in hospital with serious injuries, including a security guard with car-impact injuries and a Community Security Trust (CST) worker with stab wounds.
