Taika Waititi and Ryan Reynolds deny ever working together on Green Lantern

Taika Waititi and Ryan Reynolds have denied ever working together in a new video to announce the cast for new film Free Guy.

The video, which was uploaded to Ryan Reynolds’ YouTube channel, revealed that Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, Stranger Things’ Joe Kerry, Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds and Thor Ragnarok’ s Taika Waititi would be working together for the first time ever.

However, both Keery and Comer pointed out the duo had been paired up on 2011 bomb Green Lantern.

“I’m really mostly here for Taika,” Reynolds said.”I’ve been a huge fan of his for a long time and it’s super cool to finally meet him.”

“Ditto for me as well,” Waititi said.

“I’ve known about Ryan for a long time and we’ve always been trying to meet up or connect,” Waititi said.

When Comer asked if they’d done a movie together, both denied ever having done anything.

“Not from my memory,” Waititi said.

Reynolds asked if they meant Fried Green Tomatoes, and both decided they thought they meant Green Hornet, the Seth Rogen film.

Directed by Shawn Levy ( Night at the Museum, Real Steel), Free Guy tells the story of a bank teller who realises he’s actually living in a video game.

It’s not clear who Waititi will play, but he’s second billing to Reynolds, who’s also a producer on the film.

Speaking after the 2011 release of Green Lantern, Waititi told Stuff he had not even seen the movie.

“I’m not even sure if I’ll watch it. I’m a bit scared – I don’t really like watching myself.”

In the movie he played the role of Thomas Kalmaku, aircraft engineer and trusty best friend to the movie’s reluctant hero, played by Reynolds.

Green Lantern was a box office flop, and kept Reynolds away from superhero movies, until he landed the part of the critically acclaimed Deadpool.

Free Guy is set for release in 2020.
