Teen boy dies after falling 100 feet from abandoned structure in Joliet

A 16-year-old boy died early Sunday after falling from an abandoned Joliet industrial building, authorities said.

The boy was with four friends exploring the building, an old rock quarry structure near Louise Ray Parkway and east of Collins Street, according to a statement from the Joliet Police Department.

Just before 1 a.m., Joliet officers were called to the structure. They found the boy, who appeared to have fallen 100 feet from an opening toward the top of the structure, according to police.

First responders attempted to revive the boy, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The four young friends he was with were questioned by officers and later released to their parents.
