Teen petrol station worker, 18, hit by fleeing car after trying to stop driver leaving without paying – as cops arrest 2

A TEENAGE petrol station staff member is fighting for his life after he was mowed down by a fleeing car.

A man, 31, and a teenager, 18, were arrested after the 18-year-old was hit trying to stop a car leaving the Esso petrol station on Castleford Road, Normanton without paying.

The 31-year-old man was arrested in London and is in custody, while the 18-year-old was arrested in Essex and is in custody in West Yorkshire. 

The injured petrol station worker remains in a critical condition in hospital.

West Yorkshire Police were called at 2:22am on Sunday, October 20, to the Esso petrol station on Castleford Road, Normanton.

The staff member was hit by a black Audi after he’d tried to stop the driver from leaving the forecourt.

Detective Inspector Heather Shearer, of Wakefield District CID, said: “This is an extremely serious incident which has left a man who was doing his job in hospital in a critical condition.

“We have extensive enquiries ongoing to identify those involved and are keen to speak with anyone who has any information that could assist us in our ongoing enquiries.”
