Teenage suspect in fatal Aurora shooting dies in Denver

A teenage “person of interest” in the shooting death of another Aurora teen killed himself in Denver last week, police said.

Aurora investigators learned on Christmas that the 17-year-old boy, who police are not identifying because of his age, had been found dead in Denver, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department. He died from a “traumatic, self-inflicted injury,” police said.

There are no other outstanding suspects in the original shooting investigation, Aurora police said.

Aurora officers responded to the shooting in the 3400 block of South Jebel Court at about 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 21, police said. When they arrived, officers found a 16-year-old boy in the driveway who had been shot.

The teen died from his injuries at the scene.

Police said it was unknown if there was a relationship between the 16-year-old and 17-year-old boys.

The Aurora shooting victim will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office, and the person of interest will be identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
