THIS is the terrifying moment a car burst into flames in a McDonald’s drive-thru – forcing the driver to flee as the blaze spread to the restaurant.

He leapt out of the car before the fire spread to the McDonald’s building – damaging part of the interior.

Teen driver Oliver said: “I was in the car at the time, there was no smoke, just loads of flames.

“No one knows how it happened, all I know is the engine blew up. The flames went everywhere, the drive thru is still closed.”

Thankfully, nobody was hurt – although Oliver said his car was written off.

Firefighters scrambled to the McDonald’s at 11.19pm on Wednesday last week.

They used breathing kit and an aerial ladder platform to battle the blaze in the building.

The car was completely destroyed by the fire, which is thought to be accidental.

The McDonald’s suffered 25 per cent fire damage on the exterior and 10 per cent in the interior.

Fences around the fast-food outlet were also damaged by the late-night fire.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Our Paignton Drive Thru is currently closed due to damage following a vehicle fire last week.

“Nobody was injured in the incident. The restaurant remains open and we plan to reopen the Drive Thru as soon as it is safe to do so.”
