FX’s “The Bear” received 13 Emmy nominations Tuesday for its third season, which was released last summer.
The Chicago-set kitchen show is up for a variety awards, including best comedy series. The series’ stars, Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, are nominated for best actor and actress in a comedy series. Edebiri is also nominated for the episode she directed, Napkins. Actors Liza Colon-Zayas and Ebon Moss-Bachrach received supporting role nominations. Guest actors Jon Bernthal, Olivia Colman and Jamie Lee Curtis are also among the nominees.
Since its premiere in 2022, “The Bear” has received a total of 49 Emmy nominations and taken home 21 wins, including a win for Best Comedy for its first season. The show follows Carmy Berzatto (White), Sydney Adamu (Edebiri) and their colorful kitchen crew as they have transformed a fictitious Chicago Italian Beef stand into a high-end restaurant. The show’s fourth season dropped in June.
This year’s strong Emmy showing follows “The Bear’s” 23 nominations last year, which was a record for a comedy series. That record was matched this year by Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ series, “The Studio.” Chicago-born actor Ike Barinholtz got a supporting actor nomination for his role on “The Studio.” Fellow Chicago native Harrison Ford is also nominated in that category for his performance in “Shrinking.”
Overall, this year’s nominations were dominated by the dystopian workplace series, “Severance,” which collected 27 nominations, including lead acting nominations for Adam Scott and Britt Lower.
HBO’s “The White Lotus” also got its usual flowering of acting nominations, with four cast members including Chicago actress Carrie Coon getting supporting actress nods, and three, including Walton Goggins up for supporting actor. It was second in the drama categories to “Severance,” with 23 nominations overall.
