The Tapia Brothers Farm in Encino has been operating for 26 years, and it’s popular for its fresh produce and its friendly service.
Their history goes back decades. Tom Tapia says, “Our family has been farming here in the San Fernando Valley for many decades. My grandfather started the family farm about 80 years ago. When he passed away, my father Felix Tapia and his brothers took over.”
They soon began to focus on growing sweet corn, planting hundreds of acres in both San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley. He said, “We would send thousands of crates of corn to the LA wholesale market daily. We also would have a produce stand near the corn packing sheds to sell fresh corn along with other vegetables grown in our fields. “
He noted that their customers are very loyal. “I believe they are looking for freshness and quality, along with friendly service,” he said. “We have adult customers that grew up shopping with their parents here when they were small children.”
Today, his brother Felix Jr and himself run the farm. “We have scaled back our corn production and now focus more on fresh tomatoes along with the other summer veggies. Our season starts around mid-March and our produce stand is open until Dec. 24th.”
