This All-Electric Range Rover GT Is Land Rover’s ‘Most Car-Like’ Model Yet

The first images of the Range Rover GT—the latest of three forthcoming all-electric vehicles announced under Land Rover’s flagship brand—show it only in a slick camouflage wrap inspired by the rolling country topography surrounding Gaydon, the home of Range Rover’s creative and engineering teams. In lieu of specific details, a quote from the brand’s managing director, Martin Limpert best encapsulates what to expect from a new model by the marque that essentially created the luxury off-roader segment.

“The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand‑touring segment with the ability to deliver beautiful and engaging GT poise, proportions and long‑distance refinement while offering capabilities no conventional GT can match,” said Limpert.

“We have spent the last few years working obsessively on the fundamentals of the GT formula, reinterpreted in a sophisticated, uniquely Range Rover way. The result is the most car‑like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created, now possible on our electrified EMA architecture—complementing our existing powertrain portfolio to deliver a complete set of options for every customer need. Its blend of effortless EV performance, first‑class long‑haul refinement and all‑terrain capability is pure Range Rover; while its calming interior previews our vision of a modern grand tourer.”

The “most car-like” claim implies it’ll be an even greater departure from SUVs than the Evoque, the urban-targeted entry point to the Range Rover family. As for the EMA Limpert mentioned, that’s the brand’s Electrified Modular Architecture, the purpose-built electric car platform that’s debuting in the GT—the other two previously announced Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric are underpinned by the Modular Longitudinal Architecture, which was designed to support combustion, hybrid, and all-electric powertrains. Eventually, EMA will support EV variants of the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery Sport.

Interior images are compelling: There isn’t a button or switch in sight—just a single screen paired with driver display in place of a traditional instrument cluster, a concealed air vent that runs across the width of the cabin, a woven textile that hides the speakers, a second screen for the rear passengers, and a design that’s composed mostly of large, simple shapes, including the biggest panoramic roof available on any Range Rover.

InsideEVs sat inside the GT prototype at the automaker’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, U.K., and called the cabin “tastefully hyper-minimalist,” likening it favorably to a Tesla’s. Specifically, the outlet raved over the seats’ upholstery with eco-friendly “Ultrafabrics,” which were reportedly subjected to a decade of simulated wear but still felt brand new. While the steering wheel stalks are the only controls that offer any tactile feedback, InsideEVs loved that they provided “the most satisfying clicks I’ve ever experienced on stalks in any car.”
