Three-alarm fire being fought in Ashland area

ASHLAND — Alameda County firefighters were battling a three-alarm blaze Thursday morning, officials said.

The fire erupted about 9:38 a.m. in the 800 block of E. Lewelling Boulevard near Mission Boulevard. Initial reports were that there was also a possible explosion.

It was still burning as of 10:40 a.m.

More than one structure was reportedly burning.  How the fire started was not immediately known.

There were some reported injuries but the exact number was not immediately known.

Dozens of Alameda County Fire Department firefighters were on scene.

They were hampered by at least one downed power line.

Firefighters requested a drone from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office to assist ground units in battling the blaze.
