Snow, rain and winds as high as 70mph – Storm Bert has engulfed Britain, while three people have been killed across various parts of the UK.

A 60-year-old man was crushed on the A34 southbound carriageway in Hampshire this morning while another died when a car crashed into a wall in West Yorkshire.

A third has died after a crash in Northamptonshire and there are fears the worst of the storm is yet to come.

Meanwhile, Newcastle Airport’s arrivals board shows flights being diverted to locations such as Edinburgh and Belfast, with a flight from London Heathrow cancelled.

It comes after multiple yellow weather warnings for rain and wind have been released for the next 48 hours.

The Met Office issued an amber alert for heavy snow and ice between 7am and 5pm today in areas across Scotland, where 10-20cm is likely on ground above 200 metres and potentially as much as 20-40cm on hills above 400 metres.
