The chase for 82 and 16 is underway.
Tiger Woods looks to add to his PGA Tour and major championship win totals Thursday at Bethpage Black during the opening round of the 101st PGA Championship. A four-time winner of the event in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007, Woods is playing the event for the 20th time this week.
The 2019 Masters and 15-time major champion continues his quest for Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major titles alongside Brooks Koepka and Francesco Molinari, who fittingly both challenged Woods last month at Augusta National. The trio tees off on the 10th hole at 8:24 a.m. ET. Follow along as we track Woods’ round shot-by-shot.
LEADERBOARD: 101st PGA Championship
Hole 2: Par 4, 377 yards
OFF THE TEE: TW hit a bullet down the middle of the fairway here with a fairway wood on No. 2. He’ll have 110 yards to the pin.
APPROACH SHOT: Now THIS is the Tiger we expected to see. The Big Cat went after the pin here and nestled this one within four feet of the cup for birdie.
ON THE GREEN: No doubt about this one as Tiger sends the ball to its home in the bottom of the cup. Consecutive birdies to start his second nine.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1-over thru 11.
Hole 1: Par 4, 426 yards
OFF THE TEE: Another driver miss to the right for Tiger, who finds the deep rough once again.
APPROACH SHOT: Tiger hammers this one out of the rough and winds up pin-high to the right of the cup from 14 feet. He’ll have a birdie look.
ON THE GREEN: BANG! Tiger grooves this one into the cup for a much-needed birdie to start his second nine. That’s a great birdie from a rough (pun intended) position off the tee.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 2-over thru 10.
Hole 18: Par 4, 403 yards
OFF THE TEE: Tiger finds the fairway here to close out his opening nine. Nice shot.
APPROACH SHOT: The pin is on the front of the green, guarded by bunkers on the left and right. TW played this one perfectly, finding the green about 14 feet past the hole. Another birdie look before the turn.
ON THE GREEN: No dice here for birdie but he cleans up for par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 3-over thru 9, makes the turn T54.
Hole 17: Par 3, 199 yards
OFF THE TEE: Tiger went pin-seeking with the 6-iron but comes up short and right in one of the five bunkers surrounding the green. In the Big Cat’s defense, it’s a nice day for the beach here on Long Island.
AROUND THE GREEN: He’s got an awkward stance from the bunker and didn’t have a lot of options. He smacks this one out and it comes to rest just off the green on the fringe, around 30 feet from the pin. A very difficult par save awaits.
ON THE GREEN: Tiger had a little too much mustard on this par putt as it skates eight feet past the cup. The bogey putt also misses left, meaning another double bogey for TW. …read more
