Travis Scott & Oakley Just Revamped The Iconic X-Metal Juliet Sunglasses

The ’90s are back in a bigger and better way than perhaps ever before, with a new set of retooled Oakley x Travis Scott limited-edition frames to prove it.

Best known for its distinctive, sleek silhouette and the use of groundbreaking liquid metal alloy, the frames were ahead of their time and propulsive in both matters of form and function. The new Oakley MUZM X-Metal Juliet Prototype pays homage to its 1999 predecessor, the fourth in the X-Metal Series itself, with select Oakley stores set to receive a prized few pairs for sale starting July 24th. This time around, 25 titanium alloy components go into the still-futuristic frames, led by a campaign featuring the rapper and The Odyssey actor. Another version of the frames were previously released at Oakley’s flagship Shibuya store late last fall for about $1,560.

The chart-topping rapper and Oakley Chief Visionary continues to leave an impressive mark on the legendary performance eyewear brand just over a year into his creative tenure, with the late 1990s offering plentiful style inspiration.

In addition to retooling the Oakley archive, Scott has stayed plenty busy, breaking records for a solo rapper with last year’s “Circus Maximus” world tour, which grossed $250 million and sold more than 2.2 million tickets. Scott also leaves a memorable mark on Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster epic, speaking the first words of the film, Variety noted in an interview with the “goosebumps” rapper.

The “Sicko Mode” hitmaker worked with Oakley on exclusive details related to the revamp, like a metal collector’s case and an accompanying commemorative coin, lending further rarity to the already-exclusive drop. Fashion and lifestyle publication Culted reports that the shades are perhaps “the most beautiful pair of Oakleys” on the market.

The platinum-selling artist has a knack for taking Oakley archival favorites and updating them for a modern, streetwear and style-obsessed audience. Scott’s own Cactus Jack brand previously worked with Oakley on updates to technologically savvy frames like the Straight Jacket and the Plantaris.
