Two East Bay men arrested in connection with ‘reckless boating incident’

DISCOVERY BAY — Authorities on Thursday announced the arrest of two Oakley residents in connection with a “reckless boating incident” last weekend at the Discovery Bay Marina.

The incident happened Sunday, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses reported a Malibu ski boat chasing a personal watercraft at high speeds through the marina. Footage shared widely on social media showed the ski boat slamming into the personal watercraft, as well as hitting several other docked vessels.

The sheriff’s office said the ski boat was later found abandoned in Stockton.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested one of the suspects, a 33-year-old man, during a traffic stop in Oakley. The other suspect, a 34-year-old man, was arrested after deputies served a search warrant at his home.

Both men were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and vandalism. They are being held in lieu of $95,000 bail.

The sheriff’s office said it is continuing to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information related to the case can contact the sheriff’s office marine services unit at 925-383-4906.
