UNION CITY — One of three people suspected of robbing a man for $1,500 worth of items here has been arrested and charged, court records show.
The victim was reportedly involved in a 30-minute conversation with several women, about his cat, when three suspected gang members came up and asked him where he was from, which the victim understood to be a gang challenge. The suspects chased him to Kennedy Park in Union City, beat him until his ear started bleeding, and stole his shoes, phone, and cannabis vape pen, authorities said.
Police later arrested an 18-year-old man after he was identified from a photo lineup. He was charged with second degree robbery, court records show.
The suspects are believed to be affiliated with a Union City gang based around Decoto Road. The victim denied gang affiliation but had a tattoo indicating he could have been a rival gang member, authorities said.
