Universal Studios Hollywood will limit hours on the new Fast & Furious coaster and install additional sound barriers to address noise complaints from nearby residents.
Universal met with hundreds of Toluca Lake residents this week to discuss noise issues related to the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, according to Deadline.
“Community engagement has been central to this project and ongoing dialogue continues to inform our efforts,” according to a Universal Studios Hollywood spokesperson.

Universal has agreed not to operate the new Fast & Furious coaster from 8 to 9 a.m. through the end of the year.
The movie theme park opens at 8 a.m. on 13 days in October — mostly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Universal is expected to publish the November hours in mid-October and the December hours in mid-November.
Universal will build two additional sound barriers to address neighbors’ noise complaints.
“Although the attraction fully complies with the sound standards established for Universal’s property, which are stricter than local regulations, we have invested substantially in additional sound-reduction measures based on community feedback and remain committed to exploring what more we can do,” according to a Universal Studios Hollywood spokesperson.
Universal installed sound barriers in August to reduce noise from the new Fast & Furious roller coaster.
The additional sound barriers announced this week will include a 1,200-square-foot sound-absorbing sail and a 48-foot extension of an existing noise-dampening wall.
The Fast & Furious coaster was designed from the beginning with sound mitigation in mind.
Before construction, Universal placed speakers on theme park buildings to see how sound traveled down the hill and tracked noise levels at sites around the park and in Toluca Lake.

Universal used a low rumble track filled with pea gravel, half pipe scream shields and other sound reduction technology to lessen the coaster noise for residential neighbors.
Universal is evaluating the possibility of orienting the rotating coaster cars away from Toluca Lake during key scream moments.
Universal explored additional noise reduction options that included enclosing individual coaster cars and asking riders to wear helmets and face shields, according to Deadline. Both options were ruled out for safety reasons.
Toluca Lake residents in the tiny neighborhood below the movie studio and theme park said the new coaster was relatively quiet during testing without riders.
The noise complaints began shortly after “technical rehearsals” started in late July when screams from riders sounded “like someone is getting murdered.”
The ride officially opened in mid-September after Universal addressed initial complaints from Toluca Lake residents.
