The American politician known for embracing conspiracies, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has made more bizarre remarks during a guest appearance on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.
The Republican US House member said she believes in demons, suggesting they could be aliens who fell from heaven. She also admitted she didn’t realize key figures in the antisemitic space lasers conspiracy she promoted were Jewish.
Greene has gained unexpected support from some Democrats, who previously opposed her, after she broke with Republicans on several issues.
These issues include healthcare, Gaza, the federal government shutdown that began on October 1, and the handling of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a former friend of Donald Trump.
Host Bill Maher, who is considered to be left-leaning, asked his guests: ‘Do you think demons and the devil are real?’
Greene did not hesitate to answer, believing that what she thinks makes sense: ‘Absolutely. I’m a Bible-believing Christian and I believe those could be fallen angels.’
Fellow guest Michael Moynihan, The Fifth Column podcast host, did not agree with her theory.
Greene’s infamous 2018 social media post saying that California wildfires were ignited by a laser beam from space under the control of the Rothschild banking dynasty was revisited during the show.
The Rothschild family, a historic European banking dynasty that rose to prominence in the late 18th century, has repeatedly been the victim of antisemitic conspiracy theories.
This post was discovered by progressive watchdog Media Matters just weeks into Greene’s first congressional term.
At the same time, her colleagues voted to remove her from her House committee assignments.
During the interview with Maher, she said she initially did not know the family was Jewish, even though ‘Rothschild’ to a lot of people is synonymous with the religion.
She said: ‘Before politics, I [did] not know much of any of this stuff, I never even said the word ‘Jewish’ in the post.’
After her appearance on the show, she shared a clip from the interview talking about Obamacare on her X and said: ‘It’s completely wrong that the American taxpayer is forced to foot the bill for so many others, including health insurance for illegal aliens!!
‘I came from the private sector. If we can make things work there, then our government can too.
‘But in Washington, it’s always a fight. Democrats and Republicans are sitting in their camps while lobbyists flood the halls writing the bills for them.
‘That’s the real failure. It’s time for Mike Johnson to call us back into session so we can actually do our jobs!’
Greene has opposed Obamacare for a long time, arguing it has crushed the middle class and small business owners through unaffordable premiums.
She blamed her own party for not addressing the problems.
One X user commented on her post saying: ‘I’m glad you went on Bill Maher’s show last night. I’ve never been a fan of yours, but I enjoyed listening to you speaking clearly and explain your points rather than spouting rhetoric. Well done! I hope this inspires others to pay more attention to their constituents.’
