USC, Brown University mutually agree to cancel men’s basketball game

Sunday’s men’s basketball game between USC and Brown has been canceled due to the impact of Saturday’s school shooting that took place on the Providence, Rhode Island, research university campus.

“The entire USC community sends its support to Brown University following the tragedy that has impacted its students, staff, alumni and the city of Providence,” the team said in a statement released on Tuesday morning.

The teams mutually came to an agreement to cancel the non-conference game, and the Trojans will play against an opponent yet to be decided on Sunday.

Two students were left dead and nine more were injured when the shooter opened fire in an engineering and physics building where final exams were occurring.

Police are still searching for the gunman.

USC women basketball coach Lindsay Gottlieb, who is a 1999 graduate of Brown, addressed the shooting in her opening remarks of the postgame press conference following the Trojans’ game against UConn on Saturday.
