Venice Summer Festival celebrates the Westside community this weekend

A street party in celebration of the Westside is returning to Mar Vista this weekend with thousands of people expected to attend the free annual Venice Summer Fest.

The festival will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at 12257 Venice Blvd. and will include music on four stages, plus vendors, food trucks and a bunch of free stuff.

“It’s basically like going to a free music festival all day,” said Sarah Fisk, founder of Venice Summer Festival.

The day will start with a noon yoga class for the first 100 people to arrive. And after people center themselves with yoga they can start partying to live music with performances from more than two dozen bands covering genres from rock to country to EDM to children’s tunes.

The entrance isn’t the only free thing at the festival because companies like King’s Hawaiian will be giving away pretzels while Bailey’s Kona, Polar Beverages, Sprite and others giving away drinks throughout the event. The festival also includes a classic car show and you may even go home with a best friend since there will also be dog adoption booths set up.

For kids there will be a game area, and for adults there’s a beer garden with lounges and games plus a sushi truck. The beer garden is an open bar but there is a $45 cover charge if you’re drinking.
