Victim killed in Humboldt Park mass shooting identified as teen from Austin

A man who was killed Sunday afternoon during a mass shooting that left at least six other people injured in Humboldt Park Sunday afternoon has been identified as an Austin neighborhood resident, Chicago police said.

Seven people were standing outside about 12:17 p.m. near an alley in the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue when two unknown vehicles approached and multiple armed people left the vehicles and fired shots, according to police.

Michael Howard, 18, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which ruled the Austin man’s death a homicide.

Six others were wounded, including a 14-year-old boy and a woman, police said.

Area 4 detective are investigating.
