Vote now: Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week

Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from Nov. 3-8.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Chelsea Branley, James Logan volleyball: The sophomore outside hitter had 20 kills,15 digs and two aces as the Colts swept San Ramon Valley in the fifth-place game of the NCS Open Division bracket.

Victoria Cui, Crystal Springs golf: Cui won the CCS girls golf individual championship at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch, shooting a 67 to take home top honors. 

Cameron De La Chevrotiere, Heritage volleyball: The senior was outstanding in the final two rounds of the NCS girls volleyball playoffs, compiling 35 assists and 13 digs in a semifinal sweep over Miramonte and 37 assists and eight digs in a 3-1 win over San Marin to lead Heritage to the NCS Division III title.

Shyla Paredes, Valley Christian field hockey: The sophomore goalie shut out top seed Los Altos and Saratoga as Valley advanced to the CCS Division II championship game. The semifinal game against Los Altos went into double overtime and finished 0-0. The Warriors won the shootout 2-1 thanks to Paredes stopping four of five Los Altos shots.

Lily Palma, Las Lomas water polo: In the NCS Division I quarterfinals against Liberty, the senior had seven goals and six assists. In the semifinals against Monte Vista, she scored nine goals and drew five exclusions.

Lily Peng, Carondelet golf: Peng, who recently helped the U.S. team to victory at the Junior Ryder Cup, won medalist honors at the NCS girls golf championships, shooting a 72 to top the field at Windsor Golf Course. 

Tatum Prindiville, San Ramon Valley flag football: In an NCS semifinal, the freshman had six catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns and two flag pulls as SRV upset host California 24-13. In the Division I championship game against Granada, she had eight catches for 93 yards with two more TDs, eight flag pulls and a sack to win game MVP honors.

Zoe Tripp, St. Francis flag football: Across two CCS Division I playoff games, Tripp threw for three touchdowns and also ran for three scores, completing four one-point conversions as well. She averaged 127 passing yards and 37 rushing yards per game as St. Francis won the Division I title.

Meili Urata-Espinosa, Willow Glen field hockey: The center defender shut down opposing fast breaks and worked the ball up the field to get it back to the Rams’ offense as Willow Glen beat Carmel 2-0 and Stevenson in a shootout in the CCS Division II playoffs. The senior scored the Rams’ game-winning shootout goal in a semifinal against Stevenson after playing 74 minutes.

Kaelee Wang, Menlo School flag football: In Menlo’s 27-13 come-from-behind win over Los Gatos for the CCS Open championship game, the sophomore gained 68 yards in 11 carries and caught nine passes for 80 yards. She also snagged two interceptions, gaining 35 yards on returns. She had an extra-point conversion and five first downs. In a semifinal win over Menlo-Atherton, she had 19 catches for 146 yards and one 10-yard rushing touchdown, an interception, a pass breakup and two tackles.
