Volkswagen has shared video of its chairman Herbert Diess accompanying Tesla CEO Elon Musk on a test drive of its electric hatchback, the ID.3.
The meeting took place over the weekend in Germany, near the automaker’s headquarters, while Musk was in the country to tour Tesla’s forthcoming factory near Berlin as well as to meet with politicians and executives about the company’s partnership with Curevac to develop “RNA microfactories.”
In the short video, Musk can be seen driving the four-door car out of an airport hangar and around what appears to be an airport.
“It’s not a race machine,” Diess says at one point.
“I just wanted to see what the acceleration was like,” Musk replies.
At one point, he reaches as much as 106 kilometers per hour, or about 65 miles per hour.
“I think for a non-sporty car it’s pretty good,” Musk said regarding the car’s handling and steering. The duo also discuss lane-keeping technology and emergency assistance technologies.
“Just to be clear: We just drove the ID.3 and had a chat — there is no deal/cooperation in the making,” Diess said in his LinkedIn post.
