Westminster Bridge ‘stabbing victim’ actually suffered from a heart attack, police say

A man believed to have been stabbed during a fight on Westminster Bridge this morning actually suffered from a heart attack, police have confirmed.

Officers were called around 10.45am today after a fight reportedly broke out on the central London bridge.

Initial reports claimed the man was fighting for his life after suffering a knife wound, but further investigation has revealed this was not the case.

Following the incident, London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene and transported the man to hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to officers.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and one person has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

Two of the suspects have hospitalised for minor facial injuries. A road closure is in place on the bridge and police have said inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Metropolitan Police said: ‘Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, where they found a man in cardiac arrest.

‘Initial reports suggested the man had been stabbed, but further enquiries have confirmed this is not the case. Investigations are ongoing to determine how he came to suffer a cardiac arrest.

‘The man remains in hospital in a critical condition.’

Detours are in place for multiple bus routes in the area as well, near Victoria Embankment and Lambeth Palace Road.

Routes 11, 12, 148, 159, and 453 are all on diversion.
