Liverpool and Chelsea will meet in the UEFA Super Cup tonight after winning the Champions League and Europa League trophies last season.

It will be the first time that the competition has had an all-English match and it gives both teams a chance to boost their momentum for the new Premier League season.

Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-1 in the Champions League final earlier this year to qualify for the match, while Chelsea won 4-1 against Arsenal in the final of the Europa League.

What does the UEFA Super Cup winner get?

Both teams will earn €3.5 million (£3.3 million) for taking part in the match, with winner also claiming a bonus of €1 million (£940,000).

The winners will also get to lift the Super Cup trophy after securing victory and becoming the first English team to win since 2005.

Chelsea made more than €20 million for their success in the Europa League last season, while Liverpool made over €70 million in prize money for ending the season as Champions League winners.

Chelsea last competed in the Super Cup in 2013 after they last won the Europa League, but they lost to Champions league winners Bayern Munich.

Liverpool’s last appearance was in 2005 when they defeated CSKA Moscow 3-1 at Stade Louis II in Monaco.

When is the Super Cup and how to watch it?

The match between Liverpool and Chelsea will kick-off at 20.00 on Wednesday 14 August.

Live coverage will be shown on BT Sport 2 and BT Sport Ultimate from 19.00, and fans can also follow the action on or the BT Sport app.

The two teams will be competing at Besiktas Park in Istanbul, Turkey.

Who is the referee for Liverpool vs Chelsea?

Stephanie Frappart will be the leading official in the Super Cup, making her the first female official to take charge of a major men’s European fixture.

She also took charge of the Women’s World Cup final in July between USA and the Netherlands, and earlier this year she made her first appearance as a Ligue 1 referee.
