Farmer Boys is marking its 45th anniversary this month with a scavenger hunt involving a giant hamburger on the back of a big red truck.
On four Tuesdays, beginning Aug. 4, the truck will travel to mystery spots in Los Angeles, Ontario, Las Vegas or the High Desert, according to a news release from the Riverside-based chain. Customers who find the truck and post a selfie to their Instagram feeds with the tag @FarmerBoysFood within 24 hours will be entered into a contest to win a burger party for 45 people.
The truck will make two-hour appearances at the mystery locations 4-6 p.m., and Farmer Boys will drop clues on how to find it one hour, 30 minutes and 10 minutes before each appearance on social media, the news release said.
The first 45 people to find the truck will receive a $45 gift card and a $4.50 coupon for a Big Cheese, one of the chain’s signature burgers.

Farmer Boys was founded in 1981 at a truck stop in Perris by the Havadjias brothers, who actually came from a farming family in Cyprus. Popular PBS personality Huell Howser profiled them on his series “California’s Gold” in 2011.

In addition to burgers, it serves all-day breakfast, hot sandwiches, salads and hand-scooped shakes made with Thrifty ice cream. It’s known for its gigantic onion rings and fried zucchini sticks.
