White Sox to pick up Luis Robert Jr.’s 2026 option

The White Sox are picking up the $20 million club option on Luis Robert for the 2026 season. .The Sox also have a club option on Robert for the 2027 season.

The 28-year-old center fielder hit .223 with 14 homers and 33 stolen bases while playing in 110 games.

Robert had more success in the second half, batting .298/.352/.456 with a .808 OPS. But his season ended prematurely after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain — he was placed on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 27

Robert said before last season that he expected the Sox to trade him last offseason, as he’s the last remaining trade piece the team has.

General manager Chris Getz elected to hold on to Robert at last season’s trade deadline and has remained steadfast in his belief in the center fielder. Robert is still dependable in the field with a propensity to make the occasional flashy play.

When he’s playing well, the team is seemingly playing well and we are getting wins. He’s a guy we like having in this organization, and we are planning on having him as part of the future.”

Given the lack of big contracts on the Sox’ payroll, taking a chance on Robert rehabilitating his value is the right move for the franchise.

Was Oct. 26, 2005, just a dream? It seems like it sometimes, though a long dig through the Sun-Times’ archives suggests a clinching victory in Houston actually happened.
