Farmland beginnings
Tony was born on June 1, 1968, and grew up on his family’s farm in Atlanta, Texas.
He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology before deciding to join the Marine Corps.
While in the military, he served in the Persian Gulf and Somalian conflicts and was given a commendation medal for his bravery.
After hanging up his army boots, he enrolled at the University of Houston Law Center and graduated as the second-best performing student in his class.
Fighting for justice
Tony had a short stint as a briefing attorney and as a member of Susman Godfrey LLP, before setting up his own law firm.
He established the Buzbee Law Firm in 2000.
Tony has handled some huge cases including the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, the Astroworld Festival Lawsuit and many others.
He represented 15 of the rig workers and dozens of shrimpers, seafood restaurants and dock workers affected by the Deepwater Horizon spill.
BP eventually settled with the Department of Justice, after a lengthy legal battle, and has reportedly paid $47 billion in compensation.
After the disaster at the Astroworld Festival, which saw ten people die after the crowd surged forward, Tony represented 120 of the victims who died or were injured in the crush.
In 2021, Tony filed a lawsuit worth $750 million against the rapper Travis Scott who had hosted the event.
The case was settled outside of court.
The Jay-Z lawsuit
In October 2024, Tony filed a lawsuit on behalf of an anonymous client who accused Sean “Diddy” Combes of sexual assault in 2000.
On December 8, 2024, the lawsuit was refiled to include the rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z.
The lawyer also represents 50 other plaintiffs who have accused Combes of assault, though the hip-hop artist denies all charges against him.
Jay-Z also has denied all of the charges made against him.

The rapper’s entertainment company Roc Nation took to social media on December 9 to claim that Tony was a “fraud” trying to “blackmail” him.
Amid a fierce online debate, Tony posted a picture of himself from his time in the Marine Corp with a defiant caption.
He captioned the post: “Recognize this guy?
“This is a picture of the Weapons Platoon Commander, Alpha Company, First Battalion, Fourth Marines from our old Western Pacific cruise book.
“Despite a coordinated and aggressive effort that has included harassing my kids, contacting my clients and former clients to encourage them to sue me, contacting my colleagues and former employees asking if I’ve “abused” them, showing up at my current employee’s house to harass them, filing frivolous cases against me and my law firm defaming me with outrageous assertions to anyone who will listen and having mysterious people follow me and my family, I’m still THAT guy.
“I won’t be bullied or intimidated.”
He added that none will “scare” his clients into “silence”.
