Standard Liege fans have let off smoke bombs causing the London station to be shut down.

The incident came ahead as the team faces Arsenal in group F of the Europa League.

The busy station is just two miles south of the Emirates stadium, where tonight’s game is due to be played.

King’s Cross was evacuated just after 1pm, causing chaos for workers and commuters.

One worker fumed: “King’s Cross is closed because of these inconsiderate a**holes setting off flares and bangers.

“Police, ambulance and fire crew called, they should all be fined for wasting precious resource.”

Bella Mackie posted a short clip of football fans outside the station and wrote: “These men have just shut down King’s Cross station, throwing fire crackers and generally freaking a few people out. Jumpers say ‘red fanatics’.”

Police are said to be at the scene after a red flare was let off.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Kings Cross Underground station at 1.30pm today following reports of large numbers of football fans setting off flares.

“The station has been closed while the London Fire Brigade respond, and the football fans are being dispersed by officers.”
