HAWTHORNE — Authorities Tuesday identified a woman who was fatally shot in Hawthorne, a crime that left her alleged killer in custody.
The shooting was reported at about 11 a.m. Sunday near Doty Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard, according to the Hawthorne Police Department.
Officers found the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds to her upper body, and she died at the scene, police said.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the woman as Kmore Justine Brownstone, 54, of Hawthorne.
Witnesses told police the suspect dropped a firearm and walked following the crime, and officers arrested a 49-year-old man after searching the area, police said. The suspect, whose name was not immediately available for release, was booked on suspicion of murder.
