Woman fatally stabbed in Austin, 1 in custody

A man is in custody after a woman was fatally stabbed during an argument Thursday afternoon in Austin on the West Side.

The woman, 25, and a man, whose age wasn’t known, were outside in the 300 block of North Central Avenue when they got into a fight with a 54-year-old man around 1 p.m., Chicago police said.

During the fight, the 54-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman in the back before running away, police said.

The woman was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was pronounced dead, police said. Her name hasn’t been released.

The man was arrested shortly after and officers recovered a weapon, police said.

Charges were pending.
