Police rushed to the Isle of Wight festival after a woman in her forties died at one of the campsites.

The woman, thought to be in her forties, died on the same day a fire broke out at the festival – though it’s not thought to be related.

The death is not being treated as suspicious, the coroner said.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 10.51am yesterday (20/6) to a report of a sudden death in the campsite of Isle of Wight Festival.

‘A woman in her 40s has been confirmed as deceased and her family are aware.

‘This is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’

The festival has run since all the way back in 1968. This year, it’s on from June 20 to June 23.

Since its 2002 revival, the Isle of Wight Festival has been held at Seaclose Park on the island, just north of the town of Newport, which has a population of around 20,000.

This year it’s attracted some of the biggest names in 20th century pop, with the likes of new wave icons The Pretenders, Britpoppers Suede, electropop legends the Pet Shop Boys, and the remaining members of late-90s superstars S Club down to headline in 2024.

In addition, The Prodigy, Green Day, Simple Minds, and Johnny Marr will be playing some of the biggest shows in the UK for several years.
