A woman is in custody after she allegedly drowned a 1-year-old boy in Lake Michigan in the South Shore neighborhood on Friday night, police said.
Officers responded to a service call and found a woman, 31, in the water around 9:45 p.m. in the 7000 block of South South Shore Drive. The body of a 1-year-old boy was recovered by the Chicago Fire Department Marine Unit and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The woman was taken into custody before being sent to University of Chicago Medical Center.
Detectives are investigating and the incident has been classified as a homicide, police said. Charges are pending.
