Woman loses hand in Oakland hit-and-run vehicle crash; teen also injured

OAKLAND — A 39-year-old woman suffered a severed hand and other injuries Saturday afternoon and a 17-year-old boy was also injured when the speeding car they were passengers in crashed near downtown, authorities said.

The male driver fled after the crash and was still being sought Monday, police said.

The crash happened about 4:29 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the three people were in a 2023 black Dodge Charger with Nevada license plates that was driving westbound on West Grand Avenue at a high rate of speed when it made a northbound turn onto the 2200 block of San Pablo Avenue, veered off the roadway and crashed into a light pole. The vehicle had been rented locally, authorities said.

The driver fled on foot before police got to the scene.
