A woman has been left ‘traumatised’ after finding a dismembered rat wedged in her bread.

Nombulelo Mkumla, from South Africa, had already gone through half the loaf when she made the grisly discovery while making some toast for breakfast.

Disgusting footage shared on Facebook shows the mangled rat – with hair, guts and tail all visible – lodged in two slices.

Nombulelo said: ‘I took the bread out of the fridge to make toast and noticed something disgusting and scary. I took a picture and sent it to my friends, and one of them said: “FYI that’s a rat”.

‘I was in denial and suggested it might be something else, but the rat scenario made sense – it’s possible the rat got into the bread at the factory and for no one to notice.’

Nombulelo, from Durban, said she discovered the rodent on August 31.

She claims to have gone back to the shop to raise the issue and was allegedly told to complain directly to the supplier, PepsiCo.

She sent the brand an email alongside her video and images of the bread.

Nombulelo claims she was later contacted by a representative from PepsiCo over the phone.

She told local news: ‘This experience has been traumatic and disgusting.’

According to IOL, Cornel Vermeulen from PepsiCo South Africa said they are aware of the ‘isolated incident’.
