US Senator Tammy Duckworth given birth to a daughter in office

The 50-year-old U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth has given birth to a daughter and becoming the first sitting female US senator to give birth while in office.

The Illinois Democrat said on Twitter that Maile Pearl Bowlsbey was named after his husband’s grandma, who served as a nurse during World War II.

In a series of tweets, she also thanked her family and medical team.

Mrs. Duckworth was a former helicopter pilot and was amputated in both legs after a crash in Iraq in 2004.

The Iraq War veteran had previously made history when she became the first woman with disabilities elected to the US senate.

Baby Meilleh, the couple’s second daughter, was born Monday in a suburban hospital in Washington, DC.

She said: “Parenthood is not just a feminine issue. It is an economic issue that affects all parents – men and women,” she said.

“Although my mother’s life and senator’s demands are strict, I’m not alone or unique, so my children will only make me work harder to do my job and stand up for the hard-working families in all places. ,” she continued.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times report, last month, senators from both sides and their staff hosted a baby shower for Mrs. Duckworth at the US Capitol Building. This was the first report of birth.

In January of this year, Mrs. Duckworth told the newspaper that the second child in pregnancy was “a fight.”

Mrs. Duckworth’s first child, Abigail, was born in 2014 when she served in the United States House of Representatives.

Mrs. Duckworth is from Thailand. She is also the first Asian-American woman to be elected to the Diet.

In 2018, Mrs. Duckworth wrote a number of bills to help new mothers, including a bill requiring the airport to provide breastfeeding or breastfeeding to women.

She also called on the military to formulate a policy that would give newborn mothers time to stay in touch with newborns and adopted babies, and ensure that the parents of students have access to day care centers for children.
