3-Time All-Pro DE Emerges as Trade Possibility for Chicago Bears

After four weeks, the Chicago Bears are ranked 32nd out of 32 teams in run defense, a far cry from where the team hoped it would be under first-year defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.

Chicago’s pass rush has managed just five sacks in its first four games, which is also a huge problem considering the contracts of Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo are worth a combined $146 million. The Bears need to find ways to scheme up pressure, to be sure, but adding another edge to the mix might be a good idea.

Neworleansfootball.com’s Nick Underhill reported on October 4 that we could see a fire sale in New Orleans soon. There are teams interested in some of the Saints‘ veteran players and they’ll be watching to see who becomes available in the coming weeks, league sources tell me,” Underhill wrote on X. “There’s a feeling around the league that New Orleans will be open to hearing offers in the coming weeks.”

Sports Illustrated’s Blake Silverman listed the most likely trade candidates for New Orleans, and a few should interest the Bears, but only one could help their D-line.

Should the Chicago Bears Try to Trade for Saints DE Cam Jordan?

GettySaints veteran Cameron Jordan could be a trade candidate soon. Should the Chicago Bears be interested?

Running back Alvin Kamara and receiver Chris Olave come to mind as potential targets for other franchises hoping to fill holes during the season,” Silverman wrote, adding: “As the Saints look ahead, they could deal additional vets, especially on the defensive side like eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Cam Jordan.

An eight-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro, Jordan became the Saints’ all-time sack leader after passing Rickey Jackson in 2023. He’s been a captain nine times and is the kind of player who changes the tone of a locker room the second he walks in.

The 6-foot-4, 287-pound future Hall of Fame edge has spent his career terrorizing quarterbacks in black and gold, and while he’s getting older (he turned 36 in July), he’s still productive.

Through four games, he has 2.5 sacks, which is more than Sweat and Odeyingbo have combined. He hasn’t finished with double-digit sacks since 2021, but he’s looking fierce this year, already amassing four TFLs and four QB hits in addition to his sack totals.

He also has a significant history with Allen, and that could certainly be a factor.

The Dennis Allen Connection Might Sway Jordan

Allen, fired by the Saints last season, spent nearly a decade working with Jordan. The duo first worked together when Allen was Saints‘ DC from 2015-21 and then as head coach (2022-24). Considering how well he knows Allen’s scheme, he likely wouldn’t need a ramp-up period.

Money wouldn’t be totally prohibitive, either. Because of a spring restructure, Jordan’s 2025 cap hit sits at $9.78 million with only a $1.255 million base salary this year — meaning a mid-season trade would cost Chicago just the prorated base. The Saints wouldn’t get a big cap break by moving him, so any deal would be more about draft capital.

Chicago’s fit and need are obvious, and the Bears have the cap space. Perhaps a Day-3 pick that would escalate with playing time and sacks would make New Orleans consider it. Either way, it might be a good idea for Bears GM Ryan Poles to keep an eye on things in New Orleans.
