49ers DC Shares Direct 3-Word Praise of Browns QB Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders is set for his second straight start on Sunday for the Cleveland Browns against the San Francisco 49ers.

Sanders helped Cleveland pick up a road win over the Las Vegas Raiders in his first start and will look to build off that on Sunday. However, he will have his hands full as the Browns will take on a stingy 49ers defense.

Yet, heading into the game, 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said Sanders is a “good young quarterback” and had plenty of praise for him.

“He’s a good, young quarterback. He’s mobile, he’s got a big arm, tremendous confidence,” Saleh said on Wednesday. “He made a couple of really, really good throws in the game against Vegas, extending plays, getting out of the pocket, delivering the ball where it needed to be delivered.

“Obviously, he showed good command of the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. You anticipate someone like him who’s got that confidence, who has that skill set. He’s just going to get better and better every week.”

It’s high praise from Saleh, who thinks Sanders poses a lot of problems for the 49ers’ defense on Sunday.

“Shedeur, he came in over the last week-and-a-half, like his off-schedule stuff is going to be a problem, could already tell that,” Saleh added.

Sanders went 11-of-20 for 209 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in his first start against the Raiders.

Browns HC Praises Saleh, 49ers Defense

Although Saleh has plenty of praise for Sanders, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski echoed the praise for the 49ers’ defensive coordinator.

Stefanski said he’s coached against Saleh multiple times, and game planning to go against his defense is always a challenge.

“Yeah, Coach Saleh does an amazing job,” Stefanski said. “I’ve competed against Coach Saleh when he was at the (San Francisco) Niners the first time. When he was at the (New York) Jets, obviously going up against him now. He’s an excellent football coach from the X’s and O’s. But this defense, and Coach Saleh’s system and our system share a lot of DNA.

“Their defensive line coach, Kris Kocurek, who does an outstanding job, was with Coach (Jim) Schwartz when they were in Detroit together. So, there’s a lot of things that they do similar, and I’d say the number one thing that I think you’d see on tape is how hard their defense plays and how relentless their defense plays. And that’s something that’s obviously part of both teams’ defensive identity.”

Although Stefanski has high praise for Saleh, he believes Sanders and the Browns offense will have success on Sunday.

Sanders Eager for 1st Start at Home

After leading the Browns to a road win over the Raiders, Sanders will remain the starter for Cleveland on Sunday.

Sanders is set for his first home start, and he’s excited to play in front of the fans again.

I feel like it’ll be fun,” Sanders said. “I feel like it’ll be very fun. You got to understand right now I’m in grind mode. Mentally understanding how to attack this defense that we’re going against. And they’re a great team. They got great coaches, everything. But that’s where I am mentally right now.”

The Browns are 3.5-point underdogs against the 49ers on Sunday.
