49ers Linked to Disgruntled Raiders Star Who Wants New Contract

There seem to be a few trade candidates around the NFL who make sense for multiple contending teams to pursue, but one who continues to pop up is Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders. It remains uncertain how many players the Raiders want to move on from, as they were expected to be a bit better entering the year.

The Raiders have struggled mightily with Geno Smith under center and Pete Carroll in his first season, but a lot of that can’t be blamed on someone like Meyers. Meyers has had a decent year after requesting a trade during the offseason due to his contract situation.

From the sound of things, many believe that Meyers could be dealt this time around, with Cody Benjamin of CBS naming him a fit for the San Francisco 49ers in a potential blockbuster deal. The 49ers continue to be derailed by injuries and could use another pass catcher due to where things stand.

“If there’s one pass catcher set to change teams before the deadline, it’s probably Meyers, who sought a trade even before the Raiders sunk to 2-5 on the season. He may not be a massive needle mover as a possession receiver, but he still offers valuable depth and solid hands. Las Vegas may proclaim plans to win now, but Pete Carroll’s operation just isn’t clicking,” he wrote.

Should the 49ers Add to the Wideout Group?

It’s been impressive that the San Francisco 49ers can continue to play the type of football they have despite the injuries they’ve dealt with. With Brandon Aiyuk out, trading Deebo Samuel, and others not being healthy, the 49ers sitting at 5-3 shows how good this organization is and understands how to win. If not, the 49ers would be in the dumps like other teams dealing with similar injuries.

Will the Raiders Offload Jakobi Meyers?

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Las Vegas Raiders‘ moving on from Meyers wouldn’t come as a surprise. He had him as the fifth-ranked player on his trade board, but didn’t list the San Francisco 49ers as a potential fit.

“Meyers wanted a new deal before the season and didn’t get one despite a trade request. He appears poised for 2026 free agency. He leads the Raiders in targets (42) despite missing Week 7, and he is drawing interest at an ideal time for a Raiders team in transition.

“But there’s no consensus leaguewide on exactly what Las Vegas will do. Multiple execs told me they believe the team is open to a deal but is not actively looking for trade partners. Another, however, believes the Raiders would prefer to wait until after the season to make any sweeping changes, due in part to the presence of Pete Carroll. The type of offers that roll in over the next two weeks could determine the course of action here,” he wrote.

His comments about the offers that come in being the deciding factor on what they want to do with him could indicate what’s to come. If the San Francisco 49ers aren’t willing to give up enough, they might not have an opportunity to trade for Meyers, but other wide receivers should be available to their liking.
