76ers Make Major Decision on Paul George: Report

The Philadelphia 76ers are facing another high-stakes summer—and despite whispers of a potential Paul George exit, it appears the team is preparing to run it back.

According to Marc Stein, Philadelphia plans to keep George heading into the 2025–26 season, banking on a healthier year from their All-Star trio. That includes George, Tyrese Maxey, and reigning MVP Joel Embiid, who played just 15 games together this season.

“The Sixers expect to operate near (or maybe even above) the second apron for this upcoming campaign,” Stein reported, noting the team’s confidence in giving George and Co. another shot at a title run.

Philadelphia Still Faces Roster Questions

While the team seems committed to its core, the Sixers still hold the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft—an asset they could either use or dangle in trades to reshape the roster. Young prospects like Dylan Harper or Ace Bailey might be available at No. 3, but with Embiid turning 31, patience might not be an option.

Trading the pick to shed George’s massive contract has been floated in league circles. The 35-year-old forward is owed $161 million over the next three seasons and just posted one of the worst years of his career: 16.2 points on 43% shooting in 41 games.

76ers Still Unsure of George’s Fit After Rocky Start

George arrived in Philly with sky-high expectations. But injuries and inconsistency have led many to question the move. After finishing 13th in the East, the 76ers were one of the league’s biggest letdowns. George’s contract now looms large over their future flexibility.

Despite that, Stein’s reporting suggests Daryl Morey isn’t giving up on the trio just yet.

Time Running Out for a New Direction?

The Utah Jazz, holding the No. 5 pick, have been speculated as a possible trade partner. With no clear franchise cornerstone, Utah could theoretically absorb George’s contract if it meant moving up to No. 3. That deal would give Philadelphia much-needed cap relief and an opportunity to reshape the team’s identity.

But unless Morey gets an offer he can’t refuse, it seems the Sixers are holding firm.

George might not be the long-term answer. But for now, Philadelphia is betting on continuity—and hoping Year 2 looks nothing like Year 1.
