8-Time NFL Pro Bowler’s Nasty Divorce Ignites Patriots Blockbuster Trade Rumors

The New England Patriots have been linked as a possible trade for eight-time NFL Pro Bowler Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins. Despite being a potential trade between AFC East rivals, the rumor mill has many NFL insiders wondering if Hill’s public and nasty divorce could be the catalyst to bring the Patriots the No. 1 wide receiver they desperately need.

Back in June, NFL.com Analyst David Carr claimed that the Miami Dolphins could trade Tyreek Hill due to off-field issues and a public divorce that has made nasty headlines for him. Carr also speculated that the Dolphins could save a lot of cap space if they trade him.

“I’m not convinced Miami will keep him, considering his off-field issues and the fact that the franchise can save nearly $15 million by moving him,” Carr speculated.”

After a disappointing 2024 season for Tyreek Hill, his lack of production and a public divorce have caused great speculation about his NFL future. If he is dealt before the start of the season, the Patriots need to be willing to deal with the drama that Hill would bring to New England.

Tyreek Hill Divorce Status

The Patriots have emerged as a frontrunner to acquire Tyreek Hill. They have $61 million in cap space and signed Stefon Diggs this offseason to a three-year, $63 million contract. The potential is there for Diggs to return to form after suffering a torn ACL last season. But that’s no guarantee, and Patriots trade rumors have been swirling to pair Diggs with another top NFL wide receiver.

If Tyreek Hill is the answer for the New England Patriots, they will need to eat the media frenzy that has plagued Miami’s offseason headlines. On April 7, Hill’s wife, Keeta Vaccaro, filed for divorce from Tyreek Hill. Vaccaro filed only one day after the police responded to reports of a domestic assault call.

The police determined no crime was committed. However, Vaccaro filed claims against Tyreek Hill stating that he has “no sincere desire to spend time with ‘their’ baby, … or to be personally involved with the baby.” She further blasted Tyreek, saying he has “lacked involvement in the lives of his other 10 (or more) children.”

The Daily Mail reported that Vaccaro and Tyreek are continuing their divorce proceedings. Most recently, Hill accused Vaccaro of swiping cash and hacking into his financial accounts. Hill also submitted a motion to bar his wife’s lawyers from making ‘denigrating, disparaging and uncivil statements’ in future filings.

How Realistic are the Patriots Trade Rumors?

Despite a messy divorce, Graham Wilker of MusketFire expects Tyreek Hill to be a productive receiver in 2024. The Patriots want to establish Drake Maye as the team’s long-term quarterback. Tyreek Hill could be open to that after dealing with constant injuries derailing Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa over the last four seasons.

As of this writing, the Dolphins are not formally negotiating to trade Tyreek Hill to the Patriots. But if Tua gets hurt again, Hill may look for a change of scenery. The Dolphins are not expected to be a Super Bowl contender heading into the season. However, the Patriots have made major strides to return to the playoffs.

Even without Bill Belichick, the Patriots have a long history of being a “no-nonsense” franchise that wins Super Bowls. Tyreek Hill would be a huge addition to the Patriots. He would be a major signal to the NFL that the New England Patriots are ready to compete. The only big question is whether the Dolphins are serious about trading the eight-time Pro Bowler.
