Aaron Glenn Sends Strong Message to Jets Owner Woody Johnson

In their final game of the season at MetLife Stadium, the New York Jets looked lifeless and lethargic throughout their 42-10 blowout loss to the division rival New England Patriots.

The two teams, which were both picking in the top 10 in the 2025 NFL Draft, couldn’t be further apart in their respective “rebuilds” with second-year quarterback Drake Maye looking like an MVP and head coach Mike Vrabel spearheading a last-place to first-place finish in his first year at the helm.

The Jets, meanwhile, led by Aaron Glenn, seem to take three steps back with each passing week, and some have begun to question the first-year head coach’s job security after multiple outings seemingly devoid of effort.

They’re 0-5 against AFC East opponents this season, with a matchup against the 11-4 Buffalo Bills next week.

After the game, Glenn spoke to the media about his team’s failures and whether he and team owner Woody Johnson would have some tough conversations about job security.

Aaron Glenn Says He and Woody Johnson Are on the Same Page

In his post-game press conference, Glenn was asked by reporters what he would say to Johnson after another embarrassing defeat at the hands of a division rival.

“Woody knows I’m not going to BS him about anything at all. We’re always going to be straightforward with each other,” Glenn said via The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt.

“The No. 1 thing is we have to get better. What are those things we have to do to get better? We put our heads together and figure out what steps we have to take. I do know there’s a belief in me and I have a belief in him.”

In all fairness to Glenn, the New York Jets are working with a roster of undrafted free agents and rookies, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

At safety, the Jets are starting Malachi Moore, a rookie fourth-round pick, and Dean Clark, a college free agent.

On the defensive line, Braiden McGregor, Khalen Saunders, Payton Page, and Eric Watts saw a vast amount of snaps; all except Saunders are undrafted free agents.

Despite the talent gap, the lack of effort is something that even Glenn couldn’t excuse.

“I always talk about how we come out and play with effort. Today was the one time I felt our effort wasn’t as good as it wanted to be.”

Woody Johnson Has Faith in Aaron Glenn

Johnson hasn’t addressed the media in an official capacity this season, but his comments from October’s NFL owners’ meetings likely still ring true on his stance with Glenn.

“I do believe in Aaron (Glenn), If I were a player I’d respond to him, because he’s the real deal. It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that … he has the ability but something is just not jibing,” the New York Jets owner infamously told reporters while also ripping quarterback Justin Fields.

“But if you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that you’re going to see similar results if you go across the league, you have to play consistently at that position and that’s what we’re going to try to do for the remainder of the season.”

With Johnson’s vote of confidence, Glenn is almost guaranteed another season on the job as the head coach of the Jets.

But make no mistake, the seat will be getting warmer heading into 2026.
