Alex Bregman Rumors Heat Up as Insider Updates Blue Jays’ Surprising Plans

The Toronto Blue Jays could be the landing spot for Alex Bregman.

Toronto has been linked to Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker, but recently, Bregman’s name has come up. Bregman decided to opt out of his deal with the Boston Red Sox, and several teams are linked to him.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on Saturday evening that Toronto has legit interest in Bregman. And, the team has been in contact with him.

“Team officials have been in recent contact with Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, according to sources briefed on the conversations,” Rosenthal wrote. “Ideally, the Jays want to add a left-handed hitter. But either the right-handed Bregman or Bichette would fit their defensive alignment better than Tucker or Cody Bellinger. Both of whom bat left.

“Bregman almost certainly would stay at third for the Jays, who then would play Ernie Clement at second and Addison Barger in right, with George Springer and Anthony Santander also manning the outfield and serving as DHs. If the Jays signed Bichette to play second, a position he filled for the first time in the World Series, the only difference is that Clement would remain at third.”

Bregman would be a major get offensively and defensively for the Blue Jays, which is what the team likes.

So, with Bichette and Tucker’s markets moving slowly, Toronto could pivot to Bregman, which would be a stunning development.

“Toronto seems destined to add one of the big free-agent hitters. And Bregman seems as reasonable a possibility as any,” Rosenthal added.

Bregman hit .273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs last season with the Red Sox, but he dealt with injuries.

Blue Jays Like Bregman’s Leadership

A key reason why Toronto could sign Bregman is due to his leadership.

Bregman has been known as a great clubhouse person, and Toronto had a close-knit team in 2025. So, Rosenthal believes that given Bregman is well-respected around the MLB, and the fact that he’s friends with some current Blue Jays players, it could push a deal to happen.

“A separator for Bregman is that teams value him not only for his offense and defense, but also his leadership. Like Kyle Schwarber, who re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies for five years, $150 million, Bregman is viewed as a player who helps make teammates better. A difference-maker on and off the field.

Adding to the possible fit with Toronto: Two of Bregman’s former Houston Astros teammates, Springer and outfielder Myles Straw, are among the leading voices in the Jays’ clubhouse, which already is one of the game’s most cohesive.”

Bregman won a World Series with Springer in 2017, so the bond is there for a move to happen.

Toronto Could Land Multiple Bats

The Blue Jays have been one of the more aggressive teams this offseason. And, it appears Toronto may not be done.

ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reported that Toronto may not be done and is expected to sign one of Bregman, Tucker, or Bichette. And, the Blue Jays could sign multiple of them.

“I don’t think the Blue Jays are done,” Passan said to Michael Kay. “I think they’re gonna get a big bat. Not sure if that’s Kyle Tucker or Alex Bregman or Bo Bichette or maybe multiple of them. The Blue Jays right now are in a position where they are willing to spend. They feel like they have a window here, and they are going to take advantage of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s prime years.”

Toronto lost in Game 7 of the World Series, and the Blue Jays are going all-in this offseason.
