Angel Gomes has confirmed that he is leaving Lille on a free transfer, with a number of clubs interested in snapping up the England international.
The 24-year-old has been at Lille since 2020 when he signed from Manchester United, making 134 appearances for the French club after his first season was spent on loan in Portugal with Boavista.
The midfielder performed well enough in Ligue 1 to earn himself four England caps last year under then-interim manager Lee Carsley.
However, after being a regular in the starting XI at Lille, he has made just 10 Ligue 1 starts this season and 14 league appearances in total.
Injuries have hampered his campaign, but Gomes has also spent plenty of time on the bench.
He has been expected to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer and Gomes has now confirmed that will indeed happen.
Gomes wrote on Instagram: ‘After four unforgettable years at LOSC Lille, it’s time for me to say goodbye.
‘This club has been more than just a team — it’s been a family, a home, and a place that has shaped me both on and off the pitch.
‘Like any journey, there were ups and downs, highs and lows, but I’m truly grateful to my team-mates and the fans for sticking with me throughout.
‘I’m proud of what we achieved together and thankful for every moment.
‘To the fans — thank you for your amazing support and for believing in me. I will forever be grateful. I always gave everything I had for the badge and for all of you.
‘Lille will always have a special place in my heart.’
Gomes was born in London and came through the youth ranks at Manchester United, making 10 appearances for the Red Devils before leaving.
He has been touted as a summer signing for Manchester United, while West Ham and Tottenham have also been credited with an interest in him.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests a stay in France is also a possibility as Marseille are interested, but the midfielder has many options in front of him as Romano reports that ‘several clubs have started contacts’ with the England international.
Gomes has not given much away on his next move, stating back in January that he was already aware of clubs showing an interest in him, but was just focusing on the job at hand with Lille.
‘I’m aware of clubs enquiring about my situation, but I’m now completely focused on Lille,’ Gomes told Romano in January.
‘I want to finish the season in the best way possible, and then we will see what happens, I’m focused on the present and not on negotiations.’
