Anthony Davis Has Surprising Reaction to Mavericks Trade Rumors

Less than a year after the Los Angeles Lakers traded him to the Dallas Mavericks, Anthony Davis is prepared for the inevitability of being moved again. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Davis addressed widespread Mavericks trade rumors that he could be on the move after the franchise fired Nico Harrison.

“Man, look. Y’all make it like we’re going to war or something. This is basketball. It comes with it,” Davis said of the Mavericks trade rumors, via Mike Curtis of Dallas Morning News. “I think everybody in their career has been involved in trade talks, or been traded or some type of move. That doesn’t affect me.

“I’ve been in trade talks for a while,” he continued. “My job is to do what I do when I’m on the floor, play basketball and try to lead this team. Whatever comes out of that, comes out of that. I don’t really have any control over that, but I do have an open line of communication with the front office and I’m just ready to get back on the floor.”

Anthony Davis Nearing Return

Davis, who has missed 14 of the Mavericks’ 19 games with a calf strain, engaged in a full practice session on Wednesday for the first time in several weeks. While he is listed as questionable ahead of Friday’s game against the Lakers, NBA insider Marc Stein noted on Wednesday that the 10-time All-Star is very close to a return to the court.

The former NBA champion is itching to resume his 2025-26 season.

“It’s always frustrating when you’re sitting out,” Davis said, via Curtis. “Our job is to play games, also listening to the medical staff and front office and just trying to be smart with the situation. But it is what it is. The time is now. A step closer to getting back on the floor, hopefully this weekend and go from there.”

Mavericks’ Front Office Shakeup

Anthony Davis is admittedly still shocked by the Mavericks’ firing of GM Nico Harrison, who was instrumental in bringing him to Dallas from Los Angeles. Shortly after Harrison traded Luka Doncic for Davis, he famously said that “defense wins championships,” which was believed to be a shot at the Slovenian and an endorsement of Davis’ ability to help the Mavericks capture their second title in franchise history.

“It was surprising more than anything,” Davis said of the Mavs firing Harrison.

“Nico’s my guy. Obviously, he played a huge part of getting me here and wanting me to fulfill his vision, in a sense, that he saw. It was definitely tough. … It’s the business of basketball. Once I had those conversations [with Harrison and Dumont], I was able to move forward and continue to rehab and get back on the floor and try to compete.”

The Mavericks (5-14) face a tall task to make the playoffs this season, given that Kyrie Irving isn’t expected back until early 2026 and Davis continues to face injury issues.
