Newcastle United have been dealt a major injury blow as Anthony Elanga faces a long-term spell on the sidelines.

Elanga has made an impressive start to the season with two goals in Newcastle’s opening three Premier League games.

However, the Sweden international was not included in Newcastle’s matchday squad for their 4-1 defeat away to Leeds United on Monday night.

Speaking after Newcastle’s defeat at Elland Road, Jaissle revealed that Elanga faces further tests to find out the extent of his injury.

‘The injury doesn’t look good. We need to investigate how serious it is,’ Jaissle said.

‘Elanga is struggling with injury but at the moment it does not look that good.’

Speaking to Sky Sports before kick-off, Jaissle added: ‘It could be long term.

‘He will get another MRI next week and we will see.’
