Apologies Pouring in for Antonio Pierce Amid Pete Carroll’s Raiders Start

The Las Vegas Raiders are not a good team. In fact, they are without a doubt one of the worst teams in the NFL.

That was obvious in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Raiders were a huge underdog, they typically play division rivals well. That wasn’t the case this time around. The Raiders got completely outclassed by the Chiefs, losing 31-0.

The blowout score doesn’t even do justice to how terrible Las Vegas was. The Raiders had less than 100 yards of offense and only three first downs. It was the first time a team had three or fewer first downs in a game since 2008. Las Vegas only ran 30 offensive plays, which is the second-fewest by a team in the Super Bowl era.

This wasn’t just a bad loss; it was one of the worst games a team has ever played in the history of the sport. There have been a lot of bad Raiders teams over the last two decades, but there’s an argument that this could be the worst of the bunch, at least on offense. Head coach Pete Carroll was supposed to be the savior of the franchise, but it’s looking more and more like the game has passed him by.

Antonio Pierce Gets Apologies

The Raiders were a very bad team last year under head coach Antonio Pierce, but they somehow look even worse this year. The excuse in 2024 was that the team hired an inexperienced head coach who likely needed more time before being the man in charge.

They decided to replace him with the oldest head coach in NFL history. Many Raiders fans wanted the team to fire Pierce, but many are offering apologies to the former head coach.

“Can we re hire Antonio Pierce and apologize?” one fan wrote on X.

“Antonio Pierce if you can hear me, please save us Antonio Pierce,” another fan wrote.

“Antonio pierce WE owe you an apology,” a fan commented.

There’s no way to know if Pierce would have the Raiders playing much better, but it is fair to say they wouldn’t be any worse. At least with Pierce, he was a young coach who was still learning and not the oldest coach in the history of the league who is clearly stuck in his ways.

Could Carroll Be One-and-Done?

Even after some of the Raiders’ uglier losses earlier in the season, it never felt like Carroll would be at risk of losing his job after one season. However, the Chiefs’ loss is historically bad. Carroll isn’t a young coach who is still figuring things out. He was hired so that the Raiders didn’t have to deal with seasons like this going forward.

Las Vegas lacks talent at a lot of key positions, but they still shouldn’t be this bad. The team is heading into the bye, and there should be significant changes. If the rest of the season goes similarly to Week 7, it is difficult to see how the Raiders could justify bringing Carroll back.
