Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly is being ‘monitored’ ahead of the January transfer window with several Premier League clubs interested.

Lewis-Skelly has lost his place in the Arsenal XI to Riccardo Calafiori this term, with the latter player becoming Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left-back.

The 19-year-old defender, capped six times by England, has not started a single Premier League game for the Gunners so far this season.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has told Lewis-Skelly that he needs more game time at club level if he is to make the 2026 World Cup squad.

Following that warning, a number of unnamed Premier League teams are now ‘monitoring’ Lews-Skelly ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according to Sky Sports, although it is understood that Arsenal are not looking to sell any players this winter.

Lewis-Skelly, a Hale End academy graduate, only recently signed a new five-year deal and there are no pressing financial constraints for Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Metro in September, former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn rejected the idea of Lewis-Skelly going out on loan.

‘He won’t go out on loan,’ Winterburn said. ‘There’s no way I could see him going out on loan. With all the competitions Arsenal are in, he’s going to get plenty of game time.’

Lewis-Skelly has played a total of 51 games for Arsenal to date and Arteta offered his support to the teenager after he didn’t make the England squad for November.

‘We are here to support and help each other and to give a good perspective of the situation,’ Arsenal manager Arteta explained.

‘In the case of Myles, when you look at his age, what he’s already done, he’s just remarkable.

‘So don’t look at the one moment what is happening for you because maybe it happens for the right reason and today you cannot see it.’

England boss Tuchel, meanwhile, said: ‘Myles was a very good team-mate and played for us in the last camp in the World Cup qualifier in Riga, so was Ruben Loftus-Cheek, so was Morgan Gibbs-White.

‘But I said last time there is a component to it and that is about competition and performance and the door is always open for guys who perform on a high level regularly.

‘Myles, Ruben and Morgan got out-performed by [Nico] O’Reilly, Alex Scott and Jude Bellingham in their positions.

‘Myles simply needs more starts, more minutes.

‘Now came a time when O’Reilly had so many starts in that position, so he is slightly ahead for this camp.’
